Preparing for the transition to enterprise leadership

For HSBC, the transition to enterprise leadership is first and foremost a change in mindset. What differentiates enterprise leaders is how they think. Bigger problems need bigger minds, thinking together.

Working with Imperial College Business School, MJA designed a modular learning journey to prepare 80 business and functional executives for the challenge of enterprise roles.

The first 4-day in-person module focused on enterprise leaders’ role as stewards or custodians of the Bank’s purpose, core values and legacy.

The second module, redesigned as an online experience over several weeks, focused on the leadership of transformation at enterprise level, highlighting the challenge of simultaneously ‘running the Bank’ and ‘changing the Bank’ while introducing ‘narrative’ as a way of mobilising networks and driving action.

The programme’s success led to it being adopted as a global solution in the HSBC University Leadership curriculum.
